The Ceremony
$990
Many, many years ago (ten in fact) I turned up to an audition night for trivia hosts, fumbled my way through a few questions and jokes, and somehow ended up with a weekly gig at Brisbane’s Aussie Nash Hotel.
That then led to hosting some corporate events, which led to some MC’ing work, then in the words of the great Elaine Benes, “yada yada yada” I became a Marriage Celebrant.
Actually, it turned out there was quite a bit of work involved, but I’m bloody glad I did because it’s been an absolute hoot!
I’ve been marrying people for seven years now and over that time I’ve figured out what makes a great wedding ceremony. It’s really all about saying some words and doing some things that celebrate you as a couple and what’s meaningful to you both without adding anything unnecessary i.e. no fluff.
Fluff:
1. Soft fibres from fabrics such as wool or cotton which accumulate in small light clumps.
2. Entertainment or writing perceived as trivial or superficial.
If you want someone to talk about your family tree branches growing, or two rivers of love joining to make one unstoppable force, I’m not your guy. These are great examples of fluff.
If you want something that’s fun, a bit relaxed but still meaningful, and has your guests leaving going “geez that was so (insert your names)” then we should chat.
There’s some legal stuff we need to say so at the end of the whole thing you’re actually married, but aside from that the ceremony should really just be made up of what’s important to you. Get it?
I can legally marry people anywhere in Australia, but I mostly do ceremonies around Brisbane, Ipswich, Toowoomba, and up and down the coast.
Looking at getting married somewhere else? Let me know and I can organise a quote faster than you can say Mamungkukumpurangkuntjunya Hill. Yes, it’s a place.
Your wedding, the way you want it. I’m just here to provide some guidance along the way and make sure your ceremony is the perfect celebration of you as couple.
An initial meeting where we’ll discuss your ideas, complete a couple of documents, and make sure everyone’s on the same page.
All the legal paperwork sorted and lodged.
A killer PA system with iPod/audio connectivity and cordless microphones. Cords are so 2018. Unless you like cords? Then I'm definitely pro-cords.
A rehearsal for Brisbane and Ipswich weddings.
As many calls, texts, emails, Skype chats and Facebook messages as it takes to answer all your questions along the way.
Need something else or planning something REALLY out there you want help with? Just ask!
